>>> A Simple Truth >>>

A Simple Truth

-Osho

A great master was sitting on the seashore, on the beach, and a man who was seeking for truth came to him, touched his feet and asked, "If I am not disturbing you, I would like to do anything you suggest which can help me to find the truth."

The master simply closed his eyes and remained silent. The man shook his head. He said in his own mind, "This man seems to be crazy. I am asking him a question and he is closing his eyes." He shook the man and said, "What about my question?"

The master said, "I answered it. Just sit silently... don't do anything, and the grass grows by itself. You need not bother about it—everything will happen. You just sit silently, enjoy silence."

The man said, "Can you give it a name—because people will be asking me, "What are you doing?"

So he wrote on the sand with his finger: meditation.

The man said, "This is too short an answer. Be a little more elaborate."

The master wrote in big letters: MEDITATION.

The man said, "But these are simply big letters. You are writing the same thing."

The old master said, "If I say more than that, then it will be wrong. If you can understand, then just do what I have told you and you will know."

Keep Meditating today for the peace to this world. GOD BLESS YOU ALL. Wish You Happy New year to all

>>>The Difference>>>

THE DIFFERENCE
Unknown Author

I got up early one morning
And rushed right into the day;
I had so much to accomplish
That I didn't have time to pray.
Problems just tumbled about me,
And heavier came each task;
"Why doesn't God help me?"
I wondered.
He answered, "You didn't ask."
I wanted to see joy and beauty,
But the day toiled on gray and bleak;
I wondered why God didn't show me.
He said, "But you didn't seek."
I tried to come into God's presence;
I used all my keys in the lock.
God gently and lovingly chided,
"My child, you didn't knock."
I woke up early this morning,
And paused before entering the day;
I had so much to accomplish
That I had to take time to pray.

Wish You Advance Happy New To all

>>>The Duck and The Devil >>>

The Duck and The Devil

There was a little boy visiting his grandparents on their farm. He was given a slingshot to play with out in the woods.

He Practiced in the woods, but he could never hit the target. Getting  A little discouraged, he headed back for dinner. As he was Walking back he saw Grandma's pet duck.

Just out of impulse, he let the slingshot fly, hit the duck Square in the head, and killed it. He was shocked and grieved.

In a panic, he hid the dead duck in the wood pile, only to see His sister watching! Sally had seen it all, but she said nothing.

After lunch the next day Grandma said, " Sally, let's wash the Dishes." But Sally said, " Grandma, Johnny told me he wanted to help in The kitchen." Then she whispered to him, "Remember the duck ?" So Johnny did the dishes.

Later that day, Grandpa asked if the children wanted to go  Fishing and Grandma said, " I'm sorry but I need Sally to help make Supper." Sally just smiled and said," Well that's all right because Johnny told Me he wanted to help." She whispered again, " Remember the duck?" So Sally Went fishing and Johnny stayed to help.

After several days of Johnny doing both his chores and Sally's, He finally couldn't stand it any longer. He came to Grandma and confessed that he had killed the duck. Grandma knelt down, gave him a hug, and said, " Sweetheart, I know. You see, I was standing at the window and I saw the whole thing, but because I love you, I forgave you. I was just wondering how long You would let Sally make a slave of you."

Thought for the day and every day thereafter?

Whatever is in your past, whatever you have done... And the devil Keeps throwing it up in your face (lying, cheating, debt, fear, bad Habits, hatred, anger, bitterness, etc.) ....whatever it is....You need to know that God was standing at the window and He saw the whole thing..... He has seen your whole life. He wants you to know that He loves you and that you are forgiven.

He's just wondering how long you will let the devil make a slave Of you.

The great thing about God is that when you ask for forgiveness, He Not only forgives you, but He forgets . It is by God's grace and Mercy that we are saved . always remember:
God is at the window.

JUST FOR TODAY, LORD

I will live through the next 12 hours and not try to tackle all of life's problems at once. I will
improve my mind.
I will learn something useful. I will learn something that requires effort, thought, and
concentration.
I will be agreeable. I will look my best, speak in a well-modulated voice, be courteous and
considerate. I will not find fault with friend, relative, or colleague. I will not try to change or
improve anyone but myself.
I will have a programme. I might not follow it exactly, but I will have it. I will save myself
from two enemies—hurry and indecision.
I will do a good turn and keep it a secret. If anyone finds out, it won't count. I will do two
things I don't want to do, just for the exercise.
I will believe in myself. I will give my best to the world and feel confident that the world
will give its best to me.

>>>Human Heart, The Empty Bowl>>>

Human Heart, The Empty Bowl
-Priya devi

The human heart knows no content.
A short story illustrates the truth of discontentment of the human heart.

In the olden days it was a honour to respect sadhus. One morning a sadhu (renunciate) reached the gates of a palace and requested the king to fill his empty bowl. This happened till the king's treasury became empty.

The king then stood with folded hands before the Sadhu and requested humbly as to what would fill the bowl.

The Sadhu replied that the bowl was made of human heart and no matter what ever is put in, it will still stay empty.

Name and fame, power and money, sex and pleasure, comforts and all leave the heart ultimately empty without filling it. Baba says that the human heart is made to love God and love for God alone will fill it forever, where discontentment flees.

The realization of what ever one wishes for cannot satiate the endless greed. To know God and love His immense manifestation unconditionally is the way to eternal bliss.

I said a prayer for you today
And know God must have heard;
I felt the answer in my heart
Although He spoke not a word.
I didn't ask for wealth or fame

I asked for priceless treasures rare
Of a more lasting kind.
I prayed that He'd be near to you
At the start of each new day,
To grant you health and blessings fair,
And friends to share your way.
I asked for happiness for you
In all things great and small,
But that you'd know His loving care
I prayed the most of all.

A Most Important Question

During my second month of nursing school, our professor gave us a pop quiz. I was a conscientious student and had breezed through the questions, until I read the last one:

"What is the first name of the woman who cleans the school?"

Surely this was some kind of joke. I had seen the cleaning woman several times. She was tall, darkhaired and in her 50s, but how would I know her name? I handed in my paper, leaving the last question blank. Before class ended, one student asked if the last question would count toward our quiz grade.

"Absolutely," said the professor. "In your careers you will meet many people. All are significant. They deserve your attention and care, even if all you do is smile and say hello." I've never forgotten that lesson...

I also learned her name was Ruthie.

A Glass of Milk

Unknown Author

One day, a poor boy who was selling goods from door to door to pay his way through school, found he had only one thin dime left, and he was hungry.

He decided he would ask for a meal at the next house. However, he lost his nerve when a lovely young woman opened the door.

Instead of a meal he asked for a drink of water! She thought he looked hungry so brought him a large glass of milk. He drank it so slowly, and then asked, How much do I owe you?"

You don't owe me anything," she replied. "Mother has taught us never to accept pay for a kindness."

He said ... "Then I thank you from my heart."

As Howard Kelly left that house, he not only felt stronger physically, but his faith in God and man was strong also. He had been ready to give up and quit.

Many year's later that same young woman became critically ill. The local doctors were baffled. They finally sent her to the big city, where they called in specialists to study her rare disease.

Dr. Howard Kelly was called in for the consultation. When he heard the name of the town she came from, a strange light filled his eyes.

Immediately he rose and went down the hall of the hospital to her room.

Dressed in his doctor's gown he went in to see her. He recognized her at once.

He went back to the consultation room determined to do his best to save her life. From that day he gave special attention to her case.

After a long struggle, the battle was won.

Dr. Kelly requested the business office to pass the final bill to him for approval. He looked at it, then wrote something on the edge, and the bill was sent to her room. She feared to open it, for she was sure it would take the rest of her life to pay for it all. Finally she looked, and something caught her attention on the side of the bill. She read these words ...

"Paid in full with one glass of milk"

(Signed) Dr. Howard Kelly.

>>>Why God made friends >>>

WHY GOD MADE FRIENDS

God made the world with a heartful of love,
Then He looked down from Heaven above,
And saw that we all need a helping hand,
Someone to share with, who'll understand.
He made special people to see us through
The glad times and the sad times, too;
A person on whom we can always depend,
Someone we can call a friend.
God made friends so we'll carry a part
Of His perfect love in all our hearts

Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
At all the times you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as you can.

OTHERS
Author unknown

Lord, help me live from day to day
In such a self-forgetful way,
That even when I kneel to pray,
My prayer shall be for "Others".
Help me in all the work I do
To ever be sincere and true,
And know, that all I do for You
Must needs be done for "Others".
And when my work on earth is done,
And my new work in Heavens begun
May I forget the crown I've won,
While thinking still of "Others".
"Others." Lord, yes, "Others!"
Let this my motto be.
Help me to live for others
That I may live for Thee.

Foot Prints
Author Unknown

One night a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the Lord.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he noticed two sets of footprints in the sand: one belonging to him, and the other to the Lord.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him, he looked back at the footprints in the
sand. He noticed that many times along the path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times of his life.
This really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it. "Lord, You said that once I
decided to follow You, You'd walk with me all the way. But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life, there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed You most You would leave me."
The Lord replied, "My son, My precious child, I love you and would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was then that I carried you."

>>> Don't Quit>>>

Don't Quit

When things go wrong as they sometimes will,
When the road you're trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low, and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have'to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit-
Rest, if you must, but don't quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As everyone of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don't give up though the pace seems slow—
You may succeed with another blow.
Success is failure turned inside out—
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far;
So, stick to the fight when you're hardest hit—
It's when things seem worst that you mustn't quit.

>>>Sharpen Your Skills >>>

Sharpen Your Skills

Once upon a time a very strong woodcutter asked for a job with a timber merchant, and he got it. His salary was really good and so were the working conditions. For that reason, the woodcutter was determined to do his best.

His boss gave him an axe and showed him the area where he was supposed to fell the trees. The first day, the woodcutter brought down 15 trees.

" Congratulations," the boss said. " Carry on with your work!"

Highly motivated by the words of his boss, the woodcutter tried harder the next day, but he only could bring 10 trees down. The third day he tried even harder, but he was only able to bring down 7 trees.

Day after day he was bringing lesser number of trees down.

" I must be losing my strength", the woodcutter thought. He went to the boss and apologized, saying that he could not understand what was going on.

" When was the last time you sharpened your axe?" the boss asked.
" Sharpen? I had no time to sharpen my axe. I have been very busy trying to cut trees..."

That's right. Most of us NEVER update our skills. We think that whatever we have learned is very much enough. But good is not good when better is expected. Sharpening our skills from time to time is the key to succes

>>>Siva! Siva!>>>

Siva! Siva!

THERE was a Brahman convert to Christianity in one of the South Indian towns. He had been a Saivite before conversion, but had been a pious Christian for thirty years. At fifty, he was so imbued with the teachings of his new religion that he publicly boasted that there was nothing left of the old religion in him and challenged anybody to show him any such remnant.

A young psychologist took up the challenge. He asked the convert whether he would agree to even painful tests. The convert replied that he would agree to any test however painful. The psychologist asked the convert to shut his eyes for ten minutes which he did. Then he had red hot irons brought and branded the convert's right ioot with a red hot iron suddenly. The convert unconsciously cried out in agonizing pain, 'Siva! Siva! Siva! Siva!' as the hot iron burnt into his flesh.

'Ah,' said the psychologist triumphantly, 'the beliefs of your childhood have prevailed over the convictions of later years. You called upon Siva in your agony and not upon Christ.'

There was a king who was a follower of a Saint. Once his Guruji asked him to show his treasure.

The king felt very happy and personally went and showed Guruji each and every corner of his rich treasure.

It was a huge collection of Diamonds, Rubies and other precious stones.

The Guruji asked " How much profit you make from these stones?"

King: "Nothing. In fact I have to spend a lot on keeping a tight security around them"

Guruji: "Let me show you a stone even more precious than these."

King found a good way of spending some more time with his Guruji and started walking with him.

After a long walk, they reached near the house of an old widow. She was making flour using a grind-stone.

Guruji smiled and said to the king "This very stone makes flour for hungry people and also helps this old lady make a living. Isn't this more precious than all of your stones?"

"There is a great difference between being expensive and being useful. What you call precious is only what you believe is expensive, those stones have no value otherwise. This old rugged grind stone is helping people make a living while your stones are wasting lot of unnecessary money just on security."

>>>Unconditional Love - Really Inspiring>>>

Unconditional Love

A story is told about a soldier who was finally coming home after having fought in Vietnam. He called his parents from San Francisco.

"Mom and Dad, I'm coming home, but I've a favor to ask. I have a friend I'd like to bring home with me."

"Sure," they replied, "we'd love to meet him."

"There's something you should know the son continued, "he was hurt pretty badly in the fighting. He stepped on a land mind and lost an arm and a leg. He has nowhere else to go, and I want him to come live with us."

"I'm sorry to hear that, son. Maybe we can help him find somewhere to live."

"No, Mom and Dad, I want him to live with us."

"Son," said the father, "you don't know what you're asking. Someone with such a handicap would be a terrible burden on us. We have our own lives to live, and we can't let something like this interfere with our lives. I think you should just come home and forget about this guy. He'll find a way to live on his own."

At that point, the son hung up the phone. The parents heard nothing more from him. A few days later, however, they received a call from the San Francisco police. Their son had died after falling from a building, they were told. The police believed it was suicide. The grief-stricken parents flew to San Francisco and were taken to the city morgue to identify the body of their son. They recognized him, but to their horror they also discovered something they didn't know, their son had only one arm and one leg.

The parents in this story are like many of us. We find it easy to love those who are good-looking or fun to have around, but we don't like people who inconvenience us or make us feel uncomfortable. We would rather stay away from people who aren't as healthy, beautiful, or smart as we are. Thankfully, there's someone who won't treat us that way. Someone who loves us with an unconditional love that welcomes us into the forever family, regardless of how messed up we are.

This is Good
Author Unknown

An African king had a friend who had the habit of uttering "This is Good" about anything and everything that occurred. One day the two friends went out for hunting where the friend loaded the gun for the king to shoot. But since he had loaded it wrong, the king's finger was blown off when the gun was fired. He immediately remarked as he normally did, "this is good" The king got furious as he writhed in pain. Consequently the friend was jailed.

A year later the king went on hunting all by himself unescorted. To his horror he was captured by some cannibals and was tied up to a tree. The king watched in dismay as the cannibals stacked some wood to set up a stake and tied him to it. Just as they were about to set fire, they noticed the missing thumb of the king in one hand. With superstition overriding them, as they would not feed on a man who is disabled, they set him free.

When the king reached the palace, he wasted no time to release his friend. He apologized whole heartedly for the wrong that he had committed against him. The friend as customary of himself remarked, "this is good!" When the stupified king asked why he said so, the friend replied that had he not been imprisoned he would have been killed by the cannibals as he would have escorted the king!

>>>The Seven Jars >>>

The Seven Jars

Author Unknown

Long ago there lived in Northern India a merchant whose wife had died and who went daily from his lonely house in the foothills to the town below, for buying and selling. "I must have a holiday," he said to himself one day, and he began to climb up into the hills to enjoy the view and the sounds of the forest. In the hot afternoon, feeling sleepy he looked for a quiet place for a nap. Soon he discovered a kind of hole in a cliff, actually a cave; so he lay down in the dark interior and slept. Waking up, he felt there was something with him, in the cave.

Crawling back inside he found a large earthen jar. Then another, and another and another -- there were seven jars there, altogether! Now the merchant wondered if he dared to open them. There was no sound of anyone about, still it seemed a bit risky. But curiosity, as you know, is powerful indeed. He found he could lift the lid of the first jar. What do you know! It seemed to be full of gold coins. So were the second, third, fourth and fifth. Under the lid of the sixth jar he found an aged piece of paper.
On it was written, "Finder, beware!! The seven jars of gold are yours, but there is a curse. No one who takes them with him can leave the curse behind." Now, next to curiosity, greed is the most powerful urge. Our merchant overjoyed with his luck, wasted no time in borrowing a two-wheeled cart to carry the jars of gold to his house. It was exhausting and next to impossible. Bulky and hard to lift, they had to be taken two by two; in the dark of night he lugged them to his house. On the last trip, with the seventh jar alone thankfully the load was lighter, and he noticed nothing.

"Let me count the coins," he thought, "and see how great my fortune is."

But when that seventh jar was opened he found it was only half-full. "What!" he cried, "I was promised seven jars!" He had thrown the note away and forgotten about the curse. The merchant was overcome and obsessed by a spirit of grasping and greed. Now, in the town, he went at his money-making hand and fist; it was all he lived for. "I must fill the seventh jar with gold,": this was his constant thought. Yet the more he put into the jar, strangely the more it remained half-full. He lived some years more, but never did he enjoy spending the gold he had found, because it was never enough.

A man came to his counselor in great distress. He was a shopkeeper and they
had opened a supermarket right across the street from him. It would
eventually drive him out of business. His family had owned the shop for over
a hundred years, and to lose it would be his undoing, for there was nothing
else he was skilled at. What should he do?

The counselor said, "If you fear the owner of the supermarket, you will hate
him. And hatred will be your undoing. Here is what you are to do: every
morning walk out of your shop onto the footpath and say a prayer of blessing
over your shop, wishing it prosperity. Then turn to the supermarket and
bless it too."

"What! Bless my competitor and destroyer?" "Any blessing you give him will

After six months the man returned to his counselor to report that he had had

supermarket, and his affairs were in much better shape than ever before..

There once was a man with a water pump. To a friend he said, "This water pump will provide you with all the water you need. Here, it is yours." The friend was delighted to receive it, since he was thirsty as well as needing water for his dying garden.

The next day the man came by again. His friend accused him, "This pump does not supply any water. You lied to me."

The man asked, "Did you plug the pump into power?"

"No."

"Plug it into power and you shall have all the water you need."

The next day the man came by again to see how his friend was doing. "You lied," his friend said. "I plugged it into power and it gave no water."

"Did you let a pipe into the well so that the pump could draw water?"

"No."

"Let a pipe down into the well and it will give you all the water you need."

The next day the man visited once more and again his friend said, "You lied; I still have no water."

"Did you prime the pump with water?"

"No!"

"Prime the pump with water and you shall drink indeed."

The following day the man visited his friend and the friend rejoiced for all his water. The friend said, "Did I not tell you the truth?"

"Yes," said the man.

"Why then did you call me a liar?"

"That's how it seemed; I did not realize it was my own ignorance that made your word a lie to me."

>>>Ideals>>>

Ideals

Remember that ideals
are like stars up in the sky,
You can never really reach them,
hanging in the heavens high....

But like the mighty mariner
who sailed the storm-tossed sea,
And used the stars to chart his course
with skill and certainty,

You too can chart your course in life
with high ideals and love,
For high ideals are like the stars
that light the sky above....

You cannot ever reach them,
but lift your heart up high

>>>I know>>>

I KNOW

I know He is the beginning, so why do I worry about the end.

I know
He is the creator, so why do I wonder who will destroy.

I know He has forgiven me, so why can't I forgive myself.

I know He is a healer, so why do I speak of sickness.

I know He can do all things, so why do I say I can't.

I know He will protect me, so why do I fear.

I know He will supply all my needs, so why can't I wait.

I know He is my strength and my salvation, so why do I feel weak.

I know that everything and everyone has a season,
so why when someone's season is over do I weep instead of rejoice.

I know He is the right way, so why do I go the wrong way.

I know He is the light, so why do I choose to walk in darkness.

I know that whatever I ask of GOD, GOD will give me,
so why am I scared to ask.

I know tomorrow is not promised,
so why do I put off for tomorrow what I can do today.

I know that the truth shall make me free, so why do I continue to lie.

I know He gives us revelation knowledge and understanding,
so why do I lean on my own understanding.

I know I should live in the spirit as well as walk in the spirit,
so why do I choose to live in the spirit but walk in the flesh.

I know that when praises go up blessings come down,
so why do I refuse to praise Him.

I know I am saved, so why do I refuse the word He has given me.

I know He has a plan for me,
so why am I rushing it because I am eager to do His will,
when it is His time not my time.

>>>The Beautiful Colour of love>>>

The Beautiful Colour of love

What colour is God,
Asked the child with skin so fair
Is he white like me,
Does he have light hair

Is God dark like me,
Asked the child with skin of golden hue
Has he hair that's dark and curly,
Are his eyes black or blue

I think God is red like me,
The Indian boy is heard to say
He wears a crown of feathers,
And turns our nights to day

Each one of us knows that God is there
In all the colours above
But be sure of this, the one colour he is,
Is the beautiful colour of love

So when your soul goes to Heaven,
When your life comes to its end
He will be waiting, and his hand to you
Will he extend.

There will be no colours in Heaven,
Everyone will be the same.
You will only be judged by your earthly deeds,
Not your colour or your name

So when your time comes,
And you see God in his Heaven above,
Then you will see the only colour that counts,
The beautiful colour of love.

>>>How do I find You, God?>>>

How do I find You, God?

God is Love.

If you have ever loved,
If you have ever been loved,
You have experienced God
from Within and Without

God is Truth.
If you have ever told the truth,
If you have ever discovered Truth,
You have experienced God
from Within and Without

God is Beauty.
If you have ever helped to create something beautiful,
If you have ever witnessed beauty in any of it's myriad forms,
You have experienced God
from Within and Without

God is Good.
If you have ever done or thought something good,
If you have ever recognized goodness in or through another,
You have experienced God
from Within and Without

All of those experiences, those gifts,
of Love, Truth, Beauty and Goodness
were directly from God through you

>>>The Wooden Bowl >>>

The Wooden Bowl

Unknown Author

A frail old man went to live with his son, daughter-in-law, and four-year grandson. The old man's hands trembled, his eyesight was blurred, and his step faltered. The family ate together at the table. But the elderly grandfather's shaky hands and failing sight made eating difficult. Peas rolled off his spoon onto the floor. When he grasped the glass, milk spilled on the tablecloth.

The son and daughter-in-law became irritated with the mess. "We must do something about Grandfather," said the son. "I've had enough of his spilled milk, noisy eating, and food on the floor". So the husband and wife set a small table in the corner. There, Grandfather ate alone while the rest of the family enjoyed their dinners together.

Since Grandfather had broken a dish or two, his food was served in a wooden bowl. When the family glanced in Grandfather's direction, sometimes he had a tear in his eye as he sat alone. Still, the only words the couple had for him were sharp admonitions when he dropped a fork or spilled food.

The four-year-old watched it all in silence. One evening before supper, the father noticed his son playing with wood scraps on the floor. He asked the child sweetly, "What are you making?" Just as sweetly, the boy responded, "Oh, I am making a little bowl for you and Mama to eat your food in when you get old." The four year old smiled and went back to work.

The words so struck the parents that they were speechless. Then tears started to stream down their cheeks. Though no word was spoken, both knew what must be done. That evening the husband took Grandfather's hand and gently led him back to the family table. For the remainder of his days he ate every meal with the family. And for some reason, neither husband nor wife seemed to care any longer when a fork was dropped, milk spilled, or the tablecloth soiled.

>>>Truth Once Found >>>

TRUTH ONCE FOUND

It is the intellect that divides and that synthesizes. Some creatures in the world only synthesize and some creatures only divide. But the human being has both abilities, he divides and synthesizes. Ants only synthesize, they bring Things Together And Build An Ant Hill. But Monkeys Cannot Synthesize, They Can Only Divide Everything. You Give Them a garland for example, and they tear it to pieces and throw it all over the place. A monkey can only divide, or analyze. But a beaver synthesizes, it brings all the wood together and builds a dam. Birds also synthesize such as the Weaver birds.

A human being both analyzes and synthesizes. So you analyze from the relative world and synthesize to find the one. The intellect divides to find the truth. Truth once found synthesizes everything.

When the intellect becomes quiet, it brings out the intelligence. Often people think that gathering information makes one intelligent. This is not so. It is the "samadhi" which brings out the intelligence.

An unintelligent man, in spite of having all the information, cannot be creative. An intelligent man without much information can be creative.

A sign of intelligence is to see the one in many and find the many in one.

There is an old Sanskrit proverb: The first sign of intelligence is not to start anything. The second sign of intelligence is if you have started something, you have to continue it to the end.

If you have annoyed somebody, don't stop it in the middle, take him to the edge. (Laughter)

>>>Compassion and Karma>>>

Compassion and Karma

There are two types of compassion. One is the compassion of the wise, one is that of the ignorant.

An ignorant person's compassion is on the fruit of an action whereas a wise person's compassion is towards the non-availability of knowledge. Compassion for suffering shows ignorance. Suffering comes because of karma, and if you believe in karma, where is compassion? One reaps the fruit of one's actions.

If a judge has compassion for all the offenders then the jails will be empty. At the same time, are the judges cruel to the offenders? No; the judges' compassion is for the non-availability of knowledge, not for the suffering of the criminals. It is their karma.

Often people think compassion is an act, an action. Know that compassion is your very nature. Then you will see that karma and compassion are not contradictory but complement each other.

Suppose two people come to a hospital. One is suffering from starvation, the other is ill from overeating. What type of compassion should the doctor have towards each of them? This is a riddle for you to solve!

Three Hairs

Unknown Author

There once was a woman who woke up one morning, looked in the mirror, and noticed she had only three hairs on her head. "Well," she said, "I think I'll braid my hair today." So she did and she had a wonderful day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and saw that she had only two hairs on her head. "H-M-M, " she said, "I think I'll part my hair down the middle today." So she did and she had a grand day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that she had only one hair on her head. "Well," she said, "Today I'm going to wear my hair in a pony tail." So she did and she had a fun, fun day.

The next day she woke up, looked in the mirror and noticed that there wasn't a single hair on her head....

"YEAH!" she exclaimed, "I don't have to fix my hair today!"

>>>Wild Pigs>>>

Wild Pigs

Malladi Venkata Krishna Murthy

There was a Chemistry professor in a large college that had some exchange students in the class. One day while the class was in the lab the Professor noticed one young man (exchange student) who kept rubbing his back, and stretching as if his back hurt.

The professor asked the young man what was the matter. The student told him he had a bullet lodged in his back. He had been shot while fighting communists in his native country who were trying to overthrow his country's government and install a new communist government.

In the midst of his story he looked at the professor and asked a strange question. He asked, "Do you know how to catch wild pigs?" The professor thought it was a joke and asked for the punch line.

The young man said this was no joke. "You catch wild pigs by finding a suitable place in the woods and putting corn on the ground. The pigs find it and begin to come everyday to eat the free corn. When they are used to coming every day, you put a fence down one side of the place where they are used to coming. When they get used to the fence, they begin to eat the corn again and you put up another side of the fence. They get used to that and start to eat again. You continue until you have all four sides of the fence up with a gate in the last side.

The pigs, which are used to the free corn, start to come through the gate to eat; you slam the gate on them and catch the whole herd. Suddenly the wild pigs have lost their freedom. They run around and around inside the fence, but they are caught. Soon they go back to eating the free corn. They are so used to it that they have forgotten how to forage in the woods for themselves, so they accept their captivity.

The young man then told the professor that is exactly what he sees happening to America. The government keeps pushing it toward socialism and keeps spreading the free corn out in the form of programs such as supplemental income, tax credit for unearned income, tobacco subsidies, dairy subsidies, payments not to plant crops (CRP), welfare, medicine, drugs, etc. while the people continually lose their freedoms - just a little at a time.

Three Blocks of Stone

Unknown Author

A wizard was strolling with his three sisters when the most famous warrior of the region came up to him. "I want to marry one of these beautiful girls," he said.

"If one of them gets married, the others are going to think they are ugly. I am looking for a tribe whose warriors can have three wives," answered the wizard as he walked away.

And for many a year he traveled all over the Australian continent but never managed to find such a tribe.

"At least one of us could have been happy," said one of the sisters when they were already old and weary from so much wandering.

"I was wrong, "answered the wizard. "But now it's too late."

And he turned the three sisters into blocks of stone.

Visitors to the Blue Mountains National Park near Sydney can see them - and understand that the happiness of one does not mean the sadness of others.

>>>The Stone Cutter >>>

The Stone Cutter

Unknown Author

There was once a stone cutter who was dissatisfied with himself and with his position in life. One day he passed a wealthy merchant's house. Through the open gateway, he saw many fine possessions and important visitors. "How powerful that merchant must be!" thought the stone cutter. He became very envious and wished that he could be like the merchant.

To his great surprise, he suddenly became the merchant, enjoying more luxuries and power than he had ever imagined, but envied and detested by those less wealthy than himself. Soon a high official passed by, carried in a sedan chair, accompanied by attendants and escorted by soldiers beating gongs. Everyone, no matter how wealthy, had to bow low before the procession. "How powerful that official is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be a high official!"

Then he became the high official, carried everywhere in his embroidered sedan chair, feared and hated by the people all around. It was a hot summer day, so the official felt very uncomfortable in the sticky sedan chair. He looked up at the sun. It shone proudly in the sky, unaffected by his presence. "How powerful the sun is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be the sun!"

Then he became the sun, shining fiercely down on everyone, scorching the fields, cursed by the farmers and laborers. But a huge black cloud moved between him and the earth, so that his light could no longer shine on everything below. "How powerful that storm cloud is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be a cloud!"

Then he became the cloud, flooding the fields and villages, shouted at by everyone. But soon he found that he was being pushed away by some great force, and realized that it was the wind. "How powerful it is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be the wind!"

Then he became the wind, blowing tiles off the roofs of houses, uprooting trees, feared and hated by all below him. But after a while, he ran up against something that would not move, no matter how forcefully he blew against it - a huge, towering rock. "How powerful that rock is!" he thought. "I wish that I could be a rock!"

Then he became the rock, more powerful than anything else on earth. But as he stood there, he heard the sound of a hammer pounding a chisel into the hard surface, and felt himself being changed. "What could be more powerful than I, the rock?" he thought.

He looked down and saw far below him the figure of a stone cutter.
